The boys and girls of Kindergarten continued to complete 100th Day activities as we geared up for this important day!
- 100’s Chart - At this center, the kids filled in the missing numbers. Lots of good conversations took place while they were hard at work because many noticed patterns that occurred within their number grids!
- 100th Day Puzzles – Independently, students put together cut apart 100 grids using their number sense knowledge. This was tricky, but they persevered!
- 100th Day Partner Game – At this partner game, one student closed his/her eyes as the partner covered up 5 or 6 numbers on the 100 grid. Next, the first partner had to use his/her number knowledge to discover the hidden numbers. Then, they switched! This was super fun J!
- Domino Addition – At this center, the boys and girls picked various dominos. They then recorded what their domino looked like and transferred those dots into a number sentence. This was great subitizing, counting on, and addition practice!
- iPad – subtraction! - At this iPad game, students worked to finish subtraction number sentences!
- Up and Down the Ladder – At this small group game, the cherubs took turns rolling a pair of dice. The roll on each die determined the number of Room #7 kids to put on the bunk bed. For example, if a 5 and a 2 were rolled, the players took the pictures of seven kiddos and placed five of them on the top bunk and two of them on the bottom bunk. Next, Player Two picked an Up and Down the Ladder game card and everyone rearranged the seven children’s pictures on the bunk bed according to the card’s instructions. For example, if the card said “1 Up the Ladder,” the kids moved one kid picture from the bottom and placed it on the top. Using dry erase boards, each player recorded the corresponding number sentences! The kids really enjoyed rearranging their pictures on the bunk beds to play the game!
In Writer’s Workshop, the boys and girls continue to write true stories that happen to them. This week, the writers of Room #7 received vowel charts to help them focus on the middle sound(s) in their words. Although we have not learned all the vowels (only one to go- “e”!), the chart helped them really stretch and elongate their words and then identify the vowel(s) they heard. Moreover, the cherubs know that every word in English has a vowel in it and are thus endeavoring to make sure they include one in all their words! Hard work, but they are up for the challenge!
Lastly, Room #7 was beyond excited and proud for their 100th Day Parade. They totally rocked it and had so much fun. Between their awesome 100th Day costumes (Crowns! Vests! Noodle Necklaces!), celebratory song, and smiling faces, this was definitely a 100th Day for the books! Thank you to all who were able to come and thank you for your endless support at home!
Please don’t forget about those decorated Valentine’s Day boxes! We are celebrating this loving holiday on Wednesday, February 14th! Thank you so much for all of your support!
Have a wonderful and restful weekend.
