They have also earned 2 whole class Hastings Heroes awards this week. Another one from Art and one from me today. WooHoo!

Writing: the kids continue to work on their narrative writing stories. They are able to share ideas with their partners and then choose one to write and illustrate. They are also working on editing their work. It is important they can read what they write and that their pictures match their words. This helps them practice their sound power as they stretch out their words. In addition, they are adding speech bubbles, labels and details like who, what and where. They are showing great interest in their writing and love to fix and fancy their stories.
We also created a list: If I could have 100 things of something, it would be________, because________________. They also listed things they wouldn't want._________.
They then wrote and illustrated these in a book. Some examples: things I would want:
gems, cars, candy, dresses, video games, snake skins. Things I wouldn't want: bugs, ticks, vegetables, plastic forks, etc. They were very cute.
Reader's Workshop: They continue using super powers as they read new books with more words and sentences. They continue to look for patterns in their books and even notice surprise endings when a pattern is broken. Their quiet reading stamina continues to grow as well as their partner power skills.
Word families: "at" "an" "ad" over the past two weeks we have played some games with these word families and students have practiced building a list using their rhyming power.
Math Centers: 100 day games and activities:
pattern pasta necklace (100 pieces)
5 people or things I love (created a chart of 100 hearts where students practice counting by 5's).
Race to trace: partner game- who can roll the die and get to 100 first by filling in a number grid.
Bump- continued from last week
Missing numbers_ fill in from 1-100
Stacking cups- started Friday- students worked in pairs as they stacked 100 solo cups.
100 day Crowns: we began decorating our crowns with 100 different items that are in groups of 10.
Pattern blocks- create a pattern using blocks up to 100.
Learning Labs: we continue to add new things to our stations. The science center is a big favorite. We are hoping to add a pet beta fish to our new classroom as well. In addition, the kiddos love exploring the globe and world map too. They are building famous structures from around the world, creating their own trampoline park and continue to be problem solvers. Art, legos and dramatic play are always a top choice as well. They are learning about roles in our community and have a chance to act those out. The kids have been teachers, cashiers, veterinarians, operators, guards and princesses to name a few.
Thank you for the new play dough. The kids love playing with it and its a fun way to create letters and numbers.
Please check their folders for lots of information regarding the next 2 weeks.
On Monday, we will celebrate their earning jar with an in-class picnic. Students can still buy lunch. We will just put blankets/towels on the floor and have a picnic.
Have a restful weekend all.
