This has been a fabulous week all around. The kiddos are so excited to be in our new school and classroom. They love their lockers outside, the new bathrooms, water fountains and everything about room 133!
They have learned to navigate our new cafetorium for lunch and All School Meeting. They even received their new Hastings t-shirts. We will keep these at school and send them home at the end of the year.
They have gone to all specials and even visited the nurse's office so they know where to go just in case.
So far, the playground continues to be everyone's favorite new thing!
We did continue with our regular schedule with lots of other great learning that took place.
Writing: Students continue to write narrative stories, mainly about our new school this week. They are focussing on lowercase letters and spaces between words. They are also practicing their last names too!
Reading: Students did some book shopping for their new book bags. They also practiced partner reading, word work, listening library and quiet reading. They were given magnifying glasses to help them focus on tricky words and their sounds.
Math: Addition games where students practiced rolling dice and finding the sums. They also worked on finding numbers that were larger than their sums as well as rolling one die and doubling it to find the answer. Games we played were:
Rainbow math
Bump!
Clear the board
Double It
Addition Cross-out
Growth Mindset: The Power of Yet! the kiddos learned that although there may be things they cannot do just yet, with practice and perseverance they will accomplish their goal in the near future. Some examples they shared; I cannot swim, ride my bike, read bigger books, flip on the monkey bars, pump on the swing... Yet! They then illustrated them and their work is proudly on display in our hallway.
Read Alouds: Go Dog Go, Last Stop on Market Street, Are you my mother? Trombone Tommy.
Social Studies: We continue to learn about communities and celebrations in our country and around the world. We also discussed Leap Year and danced to a Go-Noodle song about it.
Science: We added two new living things to our science center; a hyacinth bulb where we can see the roots as they grow in a clear vase and a succulent.
We continue to study weather and temperature.
Have a nice weekend all!
